A subsidiary of ExxonMobil, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited, has embarked on the training of 20 Nigerian lecturers from seven universities in the South-West, under the University Partnering Programme.
According to the company, the five-day ‘train the trainer geo-science workshop’ for lecturers, holding at the Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, is aimed at enhancing the quality of locally trained geo-scientists in the country.
The Manager, Deepwater Production, Geosciences, Mr. Goodluck Adagbasa, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the workshop, said, “The programme is designed to expose participants to current and best practices in geo-science. This will impact the quality of geoscience graduates.”
He explained that the workshop was necessary to help universities balance the dwindling standard of education in the country.
Adagbasa stressed, “We all know the world is fast becoming a global village and the use of technology in the quest for oil and gas exploration cannot be over-emphasised.
“It is, therefore, necessary to empower graduates coming out of our educational system to compete with their counterparts from other parts of the world.
“Till date, EEPNL sponsorship of the programme is in excess of N500m.”
